Make it essential
How you approach your change initiative in its early stages will directly influence both the effectiveness and impact of the change. Taking time to ask the right questions and gaining real clarity on why, how, who and what significantly increases the likelihood of success.
Start with Why
Creating a compelling case for change is critical. Simon Sinek’s work highlights the importance of starting with why. Clearly articulating the purpose behind the change before focusing on what will change and how it will be delivered.
By tapping into the power of storytelling, communicating from inside out, and being explicit about purpose and value, you can build understanding, connection and momentum from the outset.

Contract How
Contracting is one of the most important steps in any change process. It enables informed decisions about how the change will be carried out, setting clear expectations, boundaries and ways of working from the start.
Strong contracting creates a shared understanding of roles, responsibilities and decision-making and is often a strong indicator of how effectively a change initiative will progress.

Know Who
Stakeholders include any individuals or group who may be impacted by, or have an interest in, the change and its outcomes. In the UofG context, understanding you’re your stakeholders are, and how best to involve them, is critical to enabling meaningful participation, collaboration and trust.
Taking time to identify stakeholders early helps you tailor communication, manage expectations and increase engagement throughout the change process.
