Dekaban Liddle Fellowship
About the foundation
The Glasgow-Warsaw Dekaban Liddle Foundation is a collaboration between the University of Glasgow, the University of Warsaw and the Piast Institute. Dr Anatole and Mrs Pamela Dekaban established the Foundation at the University of Glasgow in 1990. Since then, it has promoted the mutual exchange of expertise between Polish and British higher education institutions. The Foundation facilitates exchanges to enhance the quality of Polish science and education.
The fellowship offers Polish economists, broadly defined, the possibility to visit the University of Glasgow or another host institution in the United Kingdom. These research visits allow them to gain a more comprehensive experience of economic theory and practice. Likewise, UK academics may apply for support to visit Higher Education institutions in Poland. Participation in the fellowship scheme is coordinated by, but not limited to, Glasgow and Warsaw and may include other British and Polish institutions.

Who can apply?
You should be a full-time teacher or researcher in Economics, Finance, Management or cognate social sciences—broadly defined Applied Economics. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Management
- Finance
- Accounting
- International Business & Enterprise
- Strategy and Decision Making
- Entrepreneurship
- Human Resource Management
- Marketing and Innovation Management.
Participants need to have an employment contract with a higher education institution in Poland or the UK. Consideration will also be given to suitably qualified applicants from government organisations and businesses in Poland.
Doctoral students without an employment contract with a university are not eligible for the fellowship.
Deliverables
At the end of their stay, Fellows are required to submit a standardised report that will be reviewed by relevant stakeholders in Scotland, Poland and the USA. In addition, a short statement from the host institution will be required to confirm the work undertaken and the time spent during the visit.
This report seeks to capture:
- The nature of your research
- How your time was spent,
- With whom you collaborated
- The value of the fellowship to your career, your institution, and Poland or the UK in general.
Deliverables from the visit may include publications, grant applications or knowledge exchange activities.
Fellowships
The Committee awards fellowships to both junior (early-career) and senior (established) scholars, and the funding is intended to cover living expenses during the visit.
Both Junior and Senior fellows may apply for visits of between 1 and 20 weeks. Fellowship funding is calculated at £800 to £1,200 per week depending on the length of stay, with a maximum amount £17,500 for longer visits.
The visits should take place between the 1st of August 2026 and the 31st of July 2027, and can be divided into multiple periods. Please note that the awarded amount will remain the same, regardless of whether the visit is completed in one trip or several.
Where the visit is based at the University of Glasgow, Fellows will be provided with a University of Glasgow IT account and full access to Library resources. Offices are not provided, although shared workspace may be booked in the University Library on arrival.
Polish applicants may apply to visit any suitable UK institution. However, University affiliation can only be assured where the visit is based at the University of Glasgow. If a Fellow chooses to visit another UK institution, they will be responsible for arranging affiliation and access to the library and other services directly with their host institution. The same applies to academics from British institutions who visit a Polish Institution.
Confirmation of the level of support from the host institution is required at the application stage.
The applications will be assessed with consideration of the following points:
- Academic rigour of the project
- Confirmation of collaboration by the prospective host with the applicant
- Level of support provided by the host institution
- Value of the fellowship for the applicant’s career
Travel & accommodation
You will be responsible for making your own travel and accommodation arrangements. We are unable to arrange accommodation through the University of Glasgow, though other universities might offer access to their accommodation service.
You will also be responsible for your own life, health and travel insurance and for any expenses related to your dependents (i.e. spouses, children) if they are accompanying you.
Ethics
Please note that if you intend to collect primary data for your research, you must receive ethical approval before conducting such research either at your own institution or the host institution.
The University of Glasgow follows a strict Ethical Approval process if your research involves human participants, material or data. You must receive ethical approval before conducting such research at the University of Glasgow. More information can be found on the College of Social Sciences Ethics page. Please note that it may take up to six weeks for your ethics application to be processed.
Language skills
English is the language used in Scotland and the United Kingdom and is, naturally, the business language at the University of Glasgow. Therefore, strong English speaking and comprehension skills are required to communicate effectively with academic colleagues and the wider community during your research visit.
