Facility Guidance

Access & Admission

1. Access & Admission

1.1. All facilities are accessed by the main entrance to UofG Sport premises:

1.1.a. Stevenson Building on Oakfield Avenue.

1.1.b. Garscube Sports Complex adjacent to Garscube Sports car park.

1.2. Users are allowed to access the part or parts of the sports facilities for which a ticket or membership has been purchased.

1.3. Access gates are in operation at both sites and can be accessed during opening hours (with a valid membership or booking) using student/staff campus cards or community membership cards, or by using the Gate Access feature in the UofG Sport app.

1.4. If a user is not in possession of a membership card when attempting to access facilities:

1.4.a. Student or staff card — a new card can be requested via appropriate means with UofG, or use the free UofG Sport app for access to sports facilities.

1.4.b. Community membership card — there is a £5 charge for replacement, or use the free UofG Sport app for access to sports facilities.

1.4.c. If you have forgotten your membership card and do not have the UofG Sport app, our Front Desk team are permitted to provide you with access manually (on production of valid ID) on a maximum of three occasions. After three admittances with no card/app, users will be refused entry and must do one of the following:

1.4.c.i. Pay £5 for a replacement membership card

1.4.c.ii. Download the free UofG Sport app and use that for entry

1.4.c.iii. Pay for a Day Pass for access.

1.5. For any specific access needs, please telephone our Front Desk team in advance of your visit on 0141 330 4540 (Stevenson Building) or 0141 330 5363 (Garscube Sports Complex).

1.6. UofG Sport staff reserves the right to refuse admission to or eject any person from the UofG Sport sports facilities on a temporary or permanent basis.

1.7. Children under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult (16 and over) when accessing UofG Sport facilities, with the exception of the Swimming Pool.

1.8. Carers accompanying users that require special assistance are admitted free of charge.

1.9. Animals are not permitted into the UofG Sport facilities with the exception of guide dogs, hearing dogs, assistance dogs or service dogs with legal public access.

Fire, Health & Safety

2. Fire, Health & Safety

2.1. Users must adhere to health & safety notices and safety guidance for the activity they are participating in, or equipment they are using.

2.2. Users must comply with any reasonable request from UofG Sport staff in relation to health & safety guidance.

2.3. Fire exits and walkways are clearly marked and must not be blocked or obstructed.

2.4. Opening fire doors in a non-emergency situation is strictly prohibited.

2.5. Upon hearing a fire alarm, users must exit the building by the nearest fire exit as quickly as possible and adhere to guidance provided by UofG Sport staff. Users will be notified in advance of a routine fire alarm test.

Health, Medical & First Aid

3. Health, Medical & First Aid

3.1. In using our Facilities, you warrant and represent that (so far as you are aware) you are in good physical and capable of performing the activity you are participating in.

3.2. All users must read and understand the UofG Sport Health Commitment Statement before accessing the facilities for the first time.

3.3. If a user has any medical conditions, illness, infectious disease or concerns about their health, they should seek medical advice before using the facilities.

3.4. When appropriate, users should inform a member of staff regarding their concerns and seek any support or assistance they may require.

3.5. If a user is injured or has an accident in the facilities, they should report this immediately to a member of UofG Sport staff.

3.6. Users must contact a member of UofG Sport staff in any emergency or first aid situation. Emergency phones are located throughout the buildings and calls will divert directly to the main reception desk.

Conduct & Expected Behaviours

4. Conduct and Expected Behaviours

4.1. Smoking and use of electronic cigarettes is not permitted in the UofG Sport facilities or within close proximity to the buildings.

4.2. Any person using offensive language, behaving in a disorderly manner, or being intimidating, abusive, violent or disrespectful towards others will be ejected from the sports facilities and refused entry.

4.3. No potentially divisive or controversial views, opinions, speech or activity, or any statements that is likely to cause offence to others is permitted in the facilities.

4.4. Any person who is intoxicated, or has consumed or is in the possession of alcohol or drugs (including all substances on the current World Anti-Doping Agency prohibited substances list) will be ejected from the sports facilities and refused entry.

4.5. To prevent spillages, breakages and contamination, no food, drink or ceramic or glass containers are permitted in sports activity areas, with the exception of: water bottles, sports bottles or sports isotonic drinks bottles (with a sports cap).

4.6. If shared facilities are busy, user should seek to make these facilities available as soon as possible for others who are waiting. Those waiting should be prepared to wait a reasonable period (or seek an alternative).

4.7. Betting, gambling or gaming is not permitted within any of the facilities. Anyone found in the breach of this condition may be liable to prosecution.

4.8. Litter, including chewing gum, should be disposed of appropriately in the bins provided.

4.9. The University retains the right to terminate membership if it considers the behaviour of an individual warrants such action.

Personal Hygiene, Clothing & Footwear

5. Personal Hygiene, Clothing & Footwear

5.1. For the safety and hygiene of all, UofG Sport users should use suitable measures to maintain basic standards of hygiene, such as regular cleaning of sports clothes and self, the use of deodorant or anti-perspirant.

5.2. Users must wear clean, hygienic, safe, non-offensive and suitable clothing and footwear for the activity in which they are engaging.

5.3. Non-marking soles must be worn on all indoor sports surfaces.

5.4. Users must not change or undress in any area other than a designated changing room.

5.6. Outdoor clothing must not be worn in the swimming pool (unless permission granted by the Operations Manager).

Coaching & Teaching

6. Coaching & Teaching

6.1. Users are not permitted to carry out (or invite others to provide) any private coaching, teaching, personal training, or educational activities on UofG Sport premises (whether for reward or not) without prior authorisation from the Operations Manager.

Photography & Videography

7. Photography & Videography

7.1. Photography and videography* within changing rooms, swimming pool, sauna and steam room is strictly forbidden, unless written permission from Operations Manager has been granted.

7.2. Photography and videography* in other activity areas** must not interfere with any other users or their activity without seeking prior consent, as this is a breach their privacy and confidentiality. This includes, but is not restricted to, gym training (Pulse/PowerPlay), fitness classes or sports training and fixtures.

7.3. The person responsible for any photography or videography* in other activity areas** must be cognisant and respect that staff, members and users of the University sports facilities may prefer not to be videoed or photographed.

7.4. A member of UofG Sport staff may ask to review footage if photography or videography is deemed to have breached these UofG Sport Photography & Videography guidelines.

7.5. The person responsible for any photography or videography* in other activity areas** must take sole responsibility for acquiring the consent of each person being photographed or videoed. Without this consent, images or videos must not be taken, stored, passed on or publicised in any form, including use on social media.

7.6. Where a person is covering photography or videography* of a particular event, permissions must be sought via the UofG Sport Operations Manager, and all promotional materials for the event must state that the "accredited photographer(s) will be in attendance".

7.7. Where children and young adults up to the age of 18 are the proposed subjects, permission must be granted by the child's parents or guardians and further authorised in writing by UofG Sport Operations Manager prior to the activity or event.

7.8. UofG Sport staff reserve the right (at all times) to prohibit use of photographic, film or video equipment (including smartphones, tablets, laptops or any other photo/video recording device).

Facility & Equipment Use + Hire

8. Facility & Equipment Use + Hire

8.1. Facilities should be kept tidy and all equipment returned to its rightful, designated location after use.

8.2. Breakages or damaged equipment (fair wear and tear excepted) arising during a booking must be made good by individual, group or booking and reported to UofG Sport.

8.3. Abuse of, misuse of, or damage to facilities or equipment will not be tolerated, and any person who is deemed to have purposefully damaged property belonging to the University will be liable to meet the cost of repair and may face legal action.

8.4. Towels belonging to UofG Sport should be returned to the towel bins provided. Failure to return towels will result in membership being frozen until the towel has been returned.

8.5. Sports rackets, bats, balls and shuttlecocks etc. are available for hire at the Stevenson Building and Garscube Sports Complex main reception desks.

8.6. Depending on location and activity, a membership card, ID card, deposit or hire fee must be secured against the item hired. Deposit will be lost if the hired item or equipment is returned damaged or not returned. Users may be required to pay a replacement cost for the item if damage is deemed to have been caused through direct negligence. Further charges may be levied by UofG Sport if the hired item or equipment is damaged and the deposit is insufficient to cover the cost of repairing or replacing equipment.

8.7. The use of personal or private equipment is not permitted within the UofG Sport facilities without prior permission from the Operations Manager.

8.8. To avoid obstruction or accident, bags and other personal belongings are not permitted in activity areas – users should use lockers provided. Padlocks can be purchased from the main reception.

Lost Property & Lockers

9. Lost Property & Lockers

9.1. UofG Sport does not warrant, undertake or accept any liability for loss, damage or theft of items brought onto UofG Sport premises or left in lockers provided.

9.2. All such warranties, representations or undertakings, expressed or implied, are explicitly excluded to the fullest extent permitted at law.

9.3. If users have lost any valuables or belongings, they must enquire at reception immediately.

9.4. UofG Sport strongly recommends users avoid bringing valuable items to the sports facilities.

9.5. Non-valuable lost property will be held for a period of two weeks from the date the property is found and then disposed of.

9.6. Valuable items of lost property will be sent on to University Campus Security.

9.7. Lockers may only be used for the purposes of keeping gym kit, toiletries, accessories and clothing, for the duration of the user's visit to the facilities only.

9.8. UofG Sport cannot guarantee use of a locker will prevent theft of, or damage to, your property.

9.9. The use of lockers is not intended to, and shall not be deemed to, impose any duties of custodianship, create a contractual relationship, or form an agent and principal relationship with UofG Sport, and any person using the locker does so at their sole risk and liability.

9.10. Some of our lockers require tokens whereas others require the use of a padlock (which can be purchased at the main sports reception desk).

9.11. Lockers are provided for daily use only, and if UofG Sport has reasonable grounds to suspect that a locker being used in breach of guidance (for example, left overnight).

9.12. UofG Sport reserve the right to open the locker (by force if necessary) and remove any offending items removed and treated as lost property.
