- Frequent services from Edinburgh (around 50 minutes)
- Direct services from London (around 5 hours)
Glasgow has two main city centre stations:
- Glasgow Central
- Glasgow Queen Street
Both are well connected to the subway and bus network. The nearest station to the University is Partick, around a 20 minute walk or short bus ride from campus. It also connects directly with the Subway system and local bus routes.

Road
Glasgow is easily accessible via Scotland’s motorway network, with direct routes from across the UK.
Key routes include:
- M74 (from the south) connecting to the M8 into Glasgow
- M8 exits J18 (from the south) and J19 (from the airport and west)
Main roads around campus include Great Western Road (A82), Clydeside Expressway (A814) and Byres Road.
Parking on campus is very limited and mainly restricted to permit holders. Public parking in the surrounding area is also limited, particularly on event days.
If you are driving, we recommend using a Park & Ride facility and continuing your journey by Subway. For example, Shields Road Park & Ride offers over 800 spaces and a short 15 minute subway journey to the University.
Black taxis are widely available in the city centre and around campus. You can also book a taxi by calling 0141 429 7070.
Subway
The Glasgow Subway is one of the citys most distinctive and easy ways to travel. It’s a simple circular underground route that makes getting across Glasgow quick, reliable and stress free.
For Open Day visitors, it’s one of the easiest ways to reach the University.
The nearest station is Hillhead, located in the West End. From here it’s a short walk to campus and the main Open Day check-in point. If you are driving, we recommend using a Park & Ride and continuing by Subway. Shields Road Park & Ride has over 800 spaces and is around 15 minutes from the University by Subway, making it a straightforward way to avoid West End parking.
For our 18 June Open Day 2026, visitors can also redeem an exclusive Park & Ride offer of £4.75 by showing their Open Day ticket at the Subway ticket office. Contactless ticketing is also available across the Subway network for quick and easy travel across Glasgow.
