Glasgow to host next International Comparative Literature Association Congress in 2028
We are delighted and very excited to announce that Glasgow, having been shortlisted and invited to present our bid to the 2025 Congress in Seoul, has been selected to host the major 5-day 2028 Congress of the International Comparative Literature Association (ICLA/AILC), the largest and most prestigious Association of Comparative Literature in the world. A joint University-City initiative, the bid was co-authored and led by Shanti Graheli and Michael Syrotinski, in collaboration with the Glasgow Convention Bureau and our chosen Professional Conference Organiser, Abbey Conferences, along with input from a wonderful and enthusiastic local organising committee, and with the full and strong support of both SMLC and the College of Arts and Humanities. This will be the first time ever it has come to the UK in its 70 year history.
'Writers and their Translators' Event

The Centre for Comparative Literature and Translation is pleased to announce that its flagship Writers and their Translators event series will continue into the 2025–2026 school year. This lecture series stages dialogues between writers and their translators, offering insightful conversations about the relationship between authorship and interpretation. While announcements regarding this year’s speakers are forthcoming, past participants have included distinguished figures such as Jennifer Croft and Antonia Lloyd-Jones. Professor Emmanuel Bouju Masterclass

The Centre for Comparative Literature and Translation is organising a visit from Professor Emmanuel Bouju, Director of the Centre de recherches comparatistes at Sorbonne Nouvelle, Paris. As part of his visit this April, Professor Bouju will deliver a masterclass for postgraduate students in Comparative Literature. Further details will be shared as they become available. Practice-led event for non-academic practitioners and artists

The Centre for Comparative Literature and Translation will host a practice-led event in Semester 2, organised in collaboration with Dr Alessia Zinnari, lecturer in the School of Modern Languages and Cultures. This event continues the series of talks and workshops initiated in 2025, bringing together artists, facilitators, and practitioners working with creative methodologies.
The aim of the series is to encourage academics to expand their research frameworks, while fostering meaningful connections between academic and non-academic audiences. By facilitating dialogue across disciplines and sectors, the series seeks to plant seeds for future collaboration and interdisciplinary projects.
