Centre of Excellence for Trials Collaboration (CETC)
The vision of the Centre of Excellence for Trials Collaboration (CETC) is to position Glasgow as a world leading centre for pioneering trial methodology and design.
CETC acts as a nexus for specialist multidisciplinary regulatory and methodological expertise to address important population health questions. Working collaboratively with a range of internal and external partners, CETC endeavours to position Glasgow at the forefront of high impact, innovative and robustly designed academic research.
We are using the ‘trial’ to indicate all high-quality and efficient interventional trials and other well-designed studies, addressing important health questions to improve health and social care practice. This includes pilot/feasibility studies/simulation modelling with a trajectory leading to a full/definitive trial.
The strategic objectives of CETC are to grow local research infrastructure and capacity to ensure researchers, at all levels, are supported in every aspect of securing research funding and career development and to drive increased funding success of Glasgow-led trials.

Patient and Public Involvement
PPI support is available to all researchers across the University and the NHS, including those working in basic science or discovery research.
We can:
- facilitate the access to a lay perspective on your research proposal or ethics application through the PPI Group
- help planning and costing PPI activities

MedTech Development Regulatory Support
Supporting MedTech research at the University of Glasgow involves many components, and CETC is one of these key elements, alongside the IP team, commercialisation team, MedTech Innovation Fund team, Translational Research Initiative, among others. The bespoke support provided from these teams varies, and often includes grants to advance product development, as well as advice on translation and commercialisation.

Researchers and Trial Managers Drop-in Surgeries
Researchers and Trial Managers Drop-in Surgeries provide support at every stage of the research journey, from pre-grant applications to post-award delivery and project completion.
We offer:
- Advice on the full research lifecycle, including post-completion queries.
- Guidance on research strategy plan and connecting with relevant departments within the University of Glasgow, NHS GGC, and beyond.
- Support with capacity building, networking, and navigating research project set up processes ( e.g. documentation development, regulatory requirements, risk management)
- A space to share feedback on research-related issues.
- Aspace for suggestions for CETC activities, events, training, and knowledge sharing.
