Alumnus Graham Watson’s debut book places him among just two UK writers shortlisted for the 2026 Plutarch Award for Best Biography.
Graham Watson (MA 2023) is one of only two British writers to be shortlisted for the 2026 Plutarch Award for Best Biography. His debut book, The Invention of Charlotte Brontë, is among the five finalists for the award.
The award recognises excellence in the field of biography, judged exclusively by an international committee of biographers.
The Invention of Charlotte Brontë was signed on a six-page sample just two weeks before Graham graduated from the University of Glasgow with joint honours in English Language and Literature in June 2023. After it was published in the UK and the US in 2025, it was awarded coveted merit stars by Kirkus, Publishers Weekly and Booklist. It was also nominated for the Kirkus Prize for Non-Fiction and selected by both the Wall Street Journal and the Washington Post as being among their best books of the year.
Reflecting on this, Graham said:
It’s a huge honour to be recognised in this way, especially amongst such accomplished peers. I’m thrilled and wish all the nominees the very best of luck!
The prizewinner will be announced in New York on May 29th.
